At Working Assets/CREDO, we believe green is good. Our goal is to grow our business with minimal impact on the planet. Here’s how we’re keeping it green.


Donations to Environmental Groups

Working Assets/CREDO members have helped generate more than $10 million for environmental nonprofits like Greenpeace, Rainforest Action Network, Natural Resources Defense Council, Ocean Conservancy and Earthjustice. Since 1985 we’ve donated over $65 million to progressive groups fighting for peace, human rights and the environment.

Citizen Activism

Together with our members, we stood up to the Bush administration’s environmentally destructive policies and mobilized grassroots support on critical issues. We pushed Congress for the first increase in fuel economy standards in 23 years. We helped stop the construction of over 65 coal-fired power plants and have been fighting for more than two decades to prevent the despoiling of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And our citizen activism movement continues to lobby for national legislation to address global warming and a switch to alternative energy sources.

Carbon Offsets

CREDO Mobile was the first phone company to be certified by Carbonfund.org for offsetting the estimated electricity use and shipping of every mobile phone we send out. (Calculations based on analyses from Carbonfund.org.)

Solar Power

CREDO Mobile was the first U.S. mobile phone company to offer solar-powered phone chargers.

Recycling Phones

As part of our commitment to the environment, we work to keep cell phones out of landfills. CREDO Mobile makes it easy to send in your old phone for reuse or recycling. Included with every new phone is a prepaid mailing label. Or you can go online to determine the value of your old phone (if any) and choose to get cash back or make a donation to the nonprofit groups CREDO is supporting this year.

Refurbished Phones

All of our refurbished cell phones are made from reused parts that provide an environmental benefit by reducing electronic waste and reusing existing materials.

Recycling Paper

We’re the only U.S. phone company that covers our paper use by donating to tree-planting organizations. So far we’ve donated over $700,000 – which has helped plant more than three million trees. We also print our phone bills on 100% post-consumer recycled paper with soy-based, nontoxic ink.

Plastic with Purpose

Working Assets offers a credit card that plants a tree every time you gas up plus donates 10 cents to alternative energy groups. Learn more.
